Being prepared to live without access to additional medication or refrigeration for medical supplies is critical Be sure to stock up on supplies you will need early.

Be sure your family knows what medication you are on and be sure to make a checklist for anyone around you in the case of an emergency.

What you need:

  • High-caloire, high-energy food bars
  • Bottle water
  • Emergency whistle
  • First-aid kit
  • Adult sanitary napkins
  • Water purification tablets
  • Non-aspirin pain pills
  • Instant cold pack
  • Anti-diarrhea tablets
  • Sunblock
  • Battery-operated fans
  • Personal telephone directory with relatives’ names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses.
  • Doctor’s names and telephone numbers
  • Two-weeks supply of medications
  • Ice cooler for insulin

Things to remember:

  • If you use a nebulizer, get a battery-operated version. (Remember: They don’t use the average household batteries.)
  • Make a list of all the items you need to care for your pet.
  • Carry a complete list of your medications.
  • Inform your relative and neighbors where you will be during a hurricane. Keep them informed of your condition (i.e. battery supply, food and water supply, etc.).
  • If you are on oxygen, have plenty on hand. (Remember: You may need more than normal.)
  • Have a complete list of all your needs in case you have to be evacuated.
